Karel Čapek, The War of The Newts

The satirical political utopia about world domination,   which Čapek published in 1936, was still topical enough in 1964 Czechoslovakia to be the subject of a national illustration competition. The mad world of the newts in this masterly novel, continues to live on in the frottages which Pražák created and printed directly on wooden floor panels. Pražák humanises the newts in these illustrations, which have all been lost, so they appear as animals as well as freely acting people.

Karel Čapek, Der Krieg mit der Molchen

Die satirische Polit-Utopie von der Weltherrschaft der Molche, die Čapek 1936 herausgab, war selbst 1964 in der Tschechoslovakei aktuell genug, um einen staatlichen Illustrations-Wettbewerb auszuschreiben. Die irre Welt der Molche in diesem meisterlichen Roman lebt weiter in den Frottagen, die Pražák direkt auf alten Fussbodenbrettern schuf und druckte. In diesen Illustrationen, die alle verlorengingen, vermenschlicht Pražák die Molche in dem Sinne, dass diese sowohl als Tiere wie als frei handelnde Personen erschienen. JM
